A lot of interest for GenHotel day
GenHotel day this year at Koepon Dairy Farm
Recently the Koepon Dairy Farm in The Netherlands was the decor for the annual GenHotel day, which could count on a lot of interest of GenHotel members and other interested breeding fans.
The first speaker this day was Martijn van der Boom, who told about the breeding and sales results of GenHotel members in the past year. Martijn also explained how matings are determined at GenHotel and what is important for breeders for future marketing of bulls and embryos.
Suvi Johansson, breeding manager at Viking Genetics, gave a fascinating presentation about the organisation, breeding strategy and developments at Viking Genetics. She also clarified about a new and very interesting technique, which is measuring the feed intake through 3D-cameras. Herewith the feed intake can be determined on a large scale, so that proofs for feed efficiency can be calculated with high reliabilities.
Next speaker Marcel Rijkers, herdmanager at the Koepon Dairy Farm, had a very informative and clear presentation, in which the history, actual situation and breeding strategy of Koepon were elucidated.
The GenHotel day was finalized with a tour in the Koepon barns. Alex Borst presented the actual flush heifers and answered all questions about pedigrees and cow families. Also the newest group milking heifers and some great older cows were seperated in a special group and had a lot of interest of the participants.
