Close-call for Lakeside Ups Red Range!
Lakeside Ups Red Range VG-86 was one of the chosen entrants for the 'Global Cow of the Year 2024', a competition created by Holstein International. A title that would suit this very influential brood cow, which belongs to Koepon, all too well. At the beginning of this week, the global Holstein magazine published the results in which the freshly calved Salvatore daughter came to a wonderful second place among a strong competition!
In 2021, this former no. 1 Red Holstein gTPI held the title of 'Global Red Impact Cow.' Now, as a brood cow with almost 400 (in)direct offspring at Koepon, she competed for the ultimate global title. Red Range VG-86 received 9.8% of the public votes, which, combined with the high rankings from three appointed judges, contributed to her final position in this competition. As a direct daughter of the equally notable De Oosterhof Dg Rose RDC VG-89, Red Range VG-86 produced 16 sons in her earlier years who went to different AI-studs. One of her notable sons, 3STAR OH Ranger Red (by Rubels), has recently been upgraded to a successful daughter-proven sire. Additionally, her sons Koepon OH Robin Red and Koepon OH Ryder Red are also gaining momentum, as their first daughters are now milking and achieve VG-scores.

Female offspring consistently rank at the top in both the monthly gTPI and weekly gRZG listings. The highest-ranking heifer calf in the American system is currently Koepon Sheepster Range 303, boasting an impressive 3265 gTPI (Sheepster x Gameday x AltaAltuve RDC x Red Range). Additionally, with a gRZG of 157, Koepon Syn Range 401 RDC is currently among the top of Germany. This heifer is a Real Syn daughter and has lineage tracing back to Red Range through Star P RDC x Rubels-Red.
Notably, the number one gRZG Tricky-Red daughter also originates from this line. Koepon Trick Range 333 Red has a gRZG of 155, 2991 gTPI, and a gNVI of 309, making her one of the most interesting heifers featured in the upcoming VOST Select Sale 12. Although her dam is not yet in production due to a long-term enterance in the flush program of Koepon, her second calver granddam, Koepon Altuve Range 7 RDC VG-87, and is the dam of the top bull Koepon Sirius P Red. Remarkably, Range 333 Red is only three generations away from the No. 2 Global Cow of the Year for 2024!
