Poppe Holsteins wins Dutch 'Breeder of the year'.

The prestigious title of Dutch Breeder of the Year was awarded to Poppe Holsteins last Saturday during the Holland Holstein Show. Poppe's family farm was among the nominees for this award, which this year was partly determined by votes from HHH members.

The jury praised Poppe Holsteins' breeding achievements over the recent years. Notably, the proven bulls Poppe Freestyle-Red and Poppe Kayne Red took the top two spots in the Dutch proven NVI rankings of August 2024. Freestyle-Red, in particular, has been widely used as a sire of sons across Europe due to its unique and allround profile. Some of its well-tested and popular sons, who successfully transmit his genes, include Aalshorst Fresco Red, Diekers 3STAR OH Fladderak RDC, De Oosterhof 3STAR Fresco Red, and Poppe Red Hot Freebird Red.

Both bulls have impressive dams: Wilder K41 RDC VG-87, sired by Board (3rd lactation), and Poppe Fienchen 1569 Red VG-85, sired by Born P RDC (4th lactation). Both dams are still present and bring the Poppe family a great deal of satisfaction. Wilder has not only produced Kayne Red but is also the dam of bulls K&L Palace Red @RUW/VOST, Poppe Ruw Alano @RUW, and Poppe RUW Allegro @RUW. Meanwhile, Fienchen 1569 Red VG-85 has been an influential bull dam, producing the no. 1 NVI and also Poppe Flight Red, a former top 10 gRZG genomics sire in Germany.

On the female side, the co-bred Poppe 3STAR Lady Gaga P Red (Skat P RDC x Star P RDC) ranked at the gNVI R&W top. She debuted in December 2023 as the No. 1 gNVI Red Holstein and remains the leading polled Red heifer in gNVI with a score of 402 gNVI points. Additionally, her herdmate, Poppe Steffy Red (Borax-Red x Taskforce P-Red), holds the 8th position with 404 gNVI points.

The milking herd, consisting of 164 cows, is one of the top producers in the Netherlands. On average, the dairy cows achieve a 305-day production of 12,629 kg of milk with 4.11% fat and 3.47% protein. Notably, the herd is young, with 48% of the cows being first calvers!

Congratulations to the Poppe family on this impressive and well-deserved title!
