'Single Step' brings changes to the top (g)NVI

As of this December 2023 index run, a new and improved system is being used for the estimation of breeding values within the Dutch/Flamish NVI, the so-called 'Single Step' method. With the introduction of the single step method, all information about the genotype and performance of cows is included in the index estimation in one step. The introduction of this method has led to a new and varied top ranking (More info about 'Single Step HERE').

In December, a new bull will be added to the special NVI list for polled bulls, namely the +346 gNVI testing Drone PP Red son Delta Universe P RDC. In addition to the fact that this top 10 contains many Dutch bulls, the German Star P RDC son WEH Sino P managed to secure fourth place with American bloodline. He tests +331 gNVI.
In the red-and-white category, the number 2 of August, Delta Primetime PP-Red, moves up to the top position after this proof run. With a 14-point increase in his total index, the Taskforce P-Red son manages to stay just ahead of Germany's polled number 1 bull, WAC CR 7 P Red, with +354 gNVI. The very popular sire CR 7 P Red (by Cartoon P Red) scores +353 gNVI. In 3rd place we find Schuit 3STAR Marcel P Red (352 gNVI), which has risen 28 points in his gNVI. This bull - owned by the Spanish Xenética Fontao - was bred by Pieter Schuit and GenHotel from the purchase that Poppe Holsteins made together with GenHotel, namely THI Tasty RDC. In the genomics red-and-white list, Marcel P Red is in 9th position. With 1324 gICO, the Money P Red son is also one of the highest, red-and-white and polled bulls in his home country Spain! Marcel P Red's Grando Red maternal-brother is also high ranked on gNVI basis, more on that later on.
Mars P-Red son VDR 3STAR Keane PP Red (bred by VDR Holsteins & GenHotel) also did well with +328 gNVI in 8th place, followed by 3STAR HWH Globed P Red (324 gNVI) in 9th position. Globed P Red's milking full sister 3STAR HWH Babsy P RDC was sold to a German dairy farmer during the recent VOST Select Sale. Just outside the top 10 ranking is the No. 4 of Germany - bred by Koepon - Koepon Sirius P Red (+324 gNVI) & followed on the 11th place by Poppe Kadans P Red (Cartoon P Red x Poppe Kanu 1980 P Red VG-86) @KI Kampen with +320 gNVI.

Young R&W genomic bulls
The new No. 1 genomics red-and-white bull is bred by ZHW Holsteins. ZWH Stripes Red (+385 gNVI) is also the highest newcomer! Earlier this week there was already an astonishing score of 160 gRZG for the Serge Red son, which has led him to a shared 4th place in Germany. Followed in 2nd place is Delta Borax-Red. Partly due to his rise of 35 points in NVI, he climbs up three places compared to the August run. New in third place, with +369 gNVI is 3STAR Poppe Tiger Red, Grando-Red x THI Tasty RDC @Xenética Fontao. With +3411 kgM, the fourth listed bull, NH Skyliner Red (368 gNVI) is the highest milk transmitting sire of this group. CEH Spotlight Red (Sputnik RDC x Gywer RDC) bred by CEH Holsteins can now be found in the top of the Netherlands/Flanders for several runs in a row now! With a gain of +20 points in his gNVI, he is in 10th place.

Proven R&W bulls
In average, the total top 10 red-and-white proven sires increased +38 in their NVI. The new leader is Delta Wingstar-Red (Popcorn x Handy P RF). With +278 NVI, the former sire of sons from the Bonhill Warsi family made a strong debut in the daughter-proven list with >400 lactating daughters! Moving up to the 2nd position is Manana Red. The Sunfish RF son, available at Synetics, scores 272 NVI, and Manana is the highest INET bull this time with an INET of 477! Also up considerably is the - in shared 2nd place - Koepon AltaTop-Red. The internationally used bull and former sire of sons bases his index of 272 NVI on 120 lactating daughters in the Netherlands and is also the No. 2 Longevity sire with +919 LVD! He is the highest ranked son of Salvatore RDC. Salvatore delivers strong on NVI basis, because within the top 10 no less than half of the bulls are sired by this much used, American bull! Aalshorst Rody-Red (Riverboy RF x Fanatic) from the herd of Tim and Roland Scholten, remains in position. With 267 NVI (+37 NVI), 415 lactating daughters and 98% reliability, he maintains his position among the new bulls. Rody-Red has been in the top 10 for eight rounds in a row! With more than 80 daughters milking in the Netherlands, Mr Salvatore RDC son Rhala Re Blues Red is putting himself on the map with 251 NVI. The highest scoring proven polled in the red-and-white category is once again Caudumer Solitair P Red (Salvatore RC x Balisto) bred by Caudumer Holsteins with 248 NVI, based on 87 daughters.
The two best conformation sires come from herd of the Albring family. Namely Drouner Rednex (Effort-Red x Freddie) with 113 Total Type and 111 Udder and Jacuzzi-Red-son Drouner Altitude-Red with 112 Total Type and 112 Udder.

Young B&W genomic bulls
After 3 rurns, there is a new heir to the throne in the rankings of the genomics black-and-white sires, namely the French bull Tigerwoods. The +400 gNVI & +1216 LVD testing Ridercup son comes from a very deep French cow family. In addition to being the leader of the list on an NVI basis, he already did well earlier this week in Spain, where he is the number 4 Interbull with 1357 gICO. In the second position we find the current number 1 in Germany, namely Real Syn. This Rover son of Synetics is already been used a lot as sire of sons and will remain popular after the gNVI proof run of +399 gNVI. Sunrise son Vh Sitron has risen no less than 50 points NVI, which brings him from place 15 in August to the 3rd position this index run. With a whopping 3470 kgM, he transmits an tremendous will to produce to his offspring. Rockwell (number 4) was introduced this week as the new number 3 gRZG and also manages to complete the gNVI list with +385 gNVI. Highest newcomer, Delta Activator, is in 5th position with +383 gNVI. The Van Erp family (Midwolder Holsteins) regularly hits the top rankings of NVI. Success also found its way to Van Erp in December with a Garret son from the Midwolder Marjon family. His dam is a Reloader daughter and also the maternal-sister of daughter proven Midwolder Martin! With +367 gNVI, Midwolder 1615 debuts in 10th place. Just outside the top 10 in 11th position with +364 gNVI is Dykster 3STAR Magello. The Migel son, purchased by the German AI-stud RUW, goes back to Snow-N Denises Dellia and also tests well in Germany with 155 gRZG.

Proven B&W bulls
In the progeny proven, black-and-white bulls, the top 2 remains unchanged with the 339 NVI scoring Delta Reloader (Finder x G-Force) in first place. Once again, Willem's-Hoeve Woody succeeds him with 299 gNVI. His number of lactating daughters continues to increase and has increased to now 1470. In addition, Woody is once again the number 1 INET proven sire with 539 INET in his profile. The Rio son Rioaveso receives his first index based on milking daughters. He makes his debut as a former sire of sons in a very strong third position with 294 NVI. Again in fourth place is Capnation Benello (287 NVI) which has been competing in the top 10 for many index runs in a row! His much-used sire Bernell (+260 NVI) with 2377 daughters still comes in 14th place in this list. One of the highest climbers in the ranking is the Canadian bull Alexerin Charm (Charley x AltaSpring). Compared to the previous run, the 283 NVI testing Charm rises 39 places! Top RZG sire (#14 RZG Black & White) Summerlake, bred by Riethil Holsteins, can now also be found in this NVI top. The Charley son from the Gourmette cow family is in 6th place with 278 NVI.
Best conformation sire is bred by 'Dutch Breeder of the Year' Koepon, namely Koepon Random owned by KI Kampen with 116 Total Conformation. The very popular Double W Ranger son from the Koepon Esmonique/Walkup Astronaut Lou Ann family also transmits +0.36% fat and +0.24% protein.
